Ruling on working in tailoring and the zakah on its wages

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The listening questioner, Umm Rizq, says in her letter: I am a housewife, and my work is sewing women’s clothing and children’s clothing. The wages I earn, I spend on the house and the children, because my husband’s situation is modest. Do I owe zakah? I have been sewing for ten years, but I have not accumulated any money; I spend it as I earn it.
Guide us, may Allah reward you, and may Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
You are rewarded, may Allah reward you with good for helping your husband and taking care of your children. This work is good; for when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked:
Which earning is the best?أي الكسب أطيب؟
he said: “A man’s work with his hands, and every honest sale.” This is work with the hands; tailoring is work with the hands. In the authentic hadith, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Nobody has ever eaten a better meal than that which one has earned by working with one's own hands. The Prophet (ﷺ) of Allah, David used to eat from the earnings of his manual labor.ما أكل أحد طعامًا خيرًا من أن يأكل من عمل يده، وإن نبي الله داود -عليه الصلاة والسلام- كان يأكل من عمل يده
Sahih al-Bukhari 2072
This work is good, and you are rewarded for your work. You must be sincere in your tailoring, and you must fear Allah in your tailoring, and be sincere. You are rewarded for that, and the earnings are good, and there is no blame in that. And in your kindness to your husband and your children, you are rewarded for that.
In summary: tailoring, carpentry, blacksmithing, and writing are all good earnings.
So is trade, if the believer is sincere in it, and does not betray, and does not lie, seeking sincerity and fulfilling the trust, and not lying, and not deceiving; then he is rewarded and the earnings are good. But if betrayal and lying enter into it, this is not permissible. We ask Allah for safety. And Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) says:
O you who have believed, do not betray Allah and the Messenger or betray your trusts while you know [the consequence].
[Al-Anfal: 27]. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the two parties in a sale, the seller and the buyer:
and if both the parties spoke the truth and described the defects and qualities (of the goods), then they would be blessed in their transaction, and if they told lies or hid something, then the blessings of their transaction would be lost.فإن صدقا وبينا، بورك لهما في بيعهما، وإن كتما وكذبا محقت بركة بيعهما
Sahih al-Bukhari 2079
.
So the important thing in handiwork is sincerity, diligence, and not deceiving, and not betraying. By that, the earnings become good in buying and selling, tailoring, carpentry, blacksmithing, and so on. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
