The Ruling on a Woman Sewing Women’s Clothing According to Fashion

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
After this, a message reached the program from Libya, sent by one of the female listeners. She signed the end of her message saying: “Your sister in Allah (Hawa M. M.) asks your Eminence about sewing for women. If a woman asks this woman who works in sewing to sew her a garment according to fashion, as it is called among women, what is your guidance? Should she comply with her request? Or how should she act? May Allah reward you with good.”

Answer:
If the fashion contradicts the Shari'ah, do not comply. Sew for her in a way that conforms to the Shari'ah and does not contradict it. If the sewing the woman wants contradicts the pure Shari'ah by exposing part of the 'awrah—and this sewing starts from what is between the navel and the knee—this is not permissible. Or if it is very tight and reveals the size of the organs and the size of the 'awrah, this is also not permissible.
As for if the sewing does not result in that, but is a fashion suitable for women that does not expose the 'awrah and does not tighten to reveal the size of the 'awrah, there is no harm in that. Every people have their own style and their own customs, and clothing is a matter of custom for every people of every land, and every group has their own habits in this regard. So if she sews for them according to their customs and the way they wear their shirts and trousers, there is nothing wrong with it, on the condition that the shirt she sews does not reveal the 'awrah between the navel and the knee. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.

The Shaykh: The intended meaning is: the 'awrah of the woman, for the 'awrah of a woman in front of a woman is what is between the navel and the knee. Yes. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
