The ruling on one who dies while leaving off fasting
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner from Chad says in this question, Your Eminence: My grandmother did not fast with the people, and she used to say: “I will not fast unless I see the crescent with my own eyes.” She died in this state and had not fasted. I am now giving charity to the poor and saying: “O Allah, attach the reward of this charity to my grandmother,” and I ask Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to forgive her sins. Will my supplication reach her, and will this reward reach her, Your Eminence?
Answer:
She was mistaken in this action, mistaken and ignorant. You will be rewarded for the charity on her behalf. If you fast the days she left off on her behalf, you will be rewarded, or any of her relatives. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1147 — meaning: a relative of his. If some of her children, or some of her siblings, or some of her relatives fast on her behalf, that is good and fine, along with seeking forgiveness for her and supplicating for her forgiveness and mercy; because she was ignorant. Yes.
