Ruling on Designating Specific Surahs and Verses for Memorization

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
In the last of this questioner’s questions from Sudan, he asks about the ruling in the Shari'ah—may Allah preserve you—on reciting the Qur'an with the intention of memorizing it; specifically by designating certain surahs, or certain verses, and a specific number, such as Surah Ya-Sin, Al-Waqi'ah, Ayat al-Kursi, and the endings of Surah Al-Baqarah and Al-Imran.
Please inform us about this question.

Answer:
There is no harm. Allah says:
So recite what is easy from itفَاقْرَؤوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ
[Al-Muzzammil:20] He conceals what He wills and preserves what He wills. The matter is broad, praise be to Allah, and there is no blame on him for that.
As for Al-Fatihah, it is obligatory for everyone. Praise be to Allah, every person must memorize it so that he can recite it in prayer, because it is a pillar of the prayer and the Mother of the Qur'an. Therefore, it is obligatory for every man and woman to memorize Al-Fatihah
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds -الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
[Al-Fatihah:2] to its end. As for what is in addition to it, it is a recommended practice. If he memorizes some of the surahs and strives in that, or some of the verses, it is all good; because Allah, the Exalted, says:
So recite what is easy from itفَاقْرَؤوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ
[Al-Muzzammil:20], yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.
