The Ruling on Praying in a Mosque Outside of Which There Are Graves

Question:
We have a mosque, and outside of it are graves. It is the only mosque in the village. I have stopped praying in this mosque because of these shrines outside of it. Please inform me: am I correct?

Answer:
If they are outside the mosque, there is no harm in praying in it. If they are outside the mosque, you are not correct; rather, pray in the mosque.
As for if they are inside it, one does not pray in it; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: . So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) warned against taking graves as mosques. One does not pray at them. And every mosque in which there are graves, one does not pray in it. It is obligatory to dig up the graves if they are placed in it, and that is the previous case. They are dug up and moved to the cemetery. But if the mosque was built over them, and they were the previous ones, but the mosque was built over them; then it is demolished, and it is not permissible for it to remain; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the one who did that. Yes.
