Guidance for those who are lax in raising their children

Question:
The questioner: Your Eminence! Many families are lax with their children, and they are actually young, but then it becomes difficult for them when they grow up. Is there any guidance?
Answer:
The Shaykh: This is one of the great calamities. Laxity is one of the great calamities. It is obligatory for the father, the mother, and the brothers not to be lax in this matter. Rather, they must strive to guide the sons and the youth to prayer, to all that is good, and to warn them against what Allah has forbidden, such as cursing, insulting, undutifulness to parents, and other major sins, smoking, drinking intoxicants, and other forms of evil.
The Shaykh: And the most important thing, indeed the most important thing after the two testimonies, is prayer. So they must compel their children to pray, and they must beat any child who neglects it if he has reached the age of ten or older. This is the obligation of fathers and mothers, and of older brothers with younger ones. This is cooperation in righteousness and piety. And Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Tawbah: 71], and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 49a.
The Shaykh: And the father is commanded to discipline his children by beating them when they reach the age of ten or older, until they become upright and pray with the people. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you, Your Eminence, and may He bless you for this good and blessed guidance.

The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong
He who amongst you sees something abominable should modify it with the help of his hand; and if he has not strength enough to do it, then he should do it with his tongue, and if he has not strength enough to do it, (even) then he should (abhor it) from his heart, and that is the least of faith.
