Expiation for one who was lax in obligatory duties

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We then move on to a message received from Yemen from the questioner: (A. A). He says: Your Eminence, the Shaykh! I was ignorant of some matters of the religion; therefore, I was lax in the obligatory duties. Praise be to Allah, I have gained understanding in the matters of my religion, and my Lord guided me Praise be to Allah and thanks be to Him. So I have been consistent with the prayer, and with the voluntary prayers, and with the Duha prayer and standing in night prayer, and fasting the white days of every month, and the daily and evening dhikr, and reading a portion of the Noble Qur'an. What must I do to expiate for the obligatory duties in which I was lax in past years?

Answer:
If you were lax in a matter that necessitates apostasy, that necessitates disbelief, that is what is upon you. Repentance is sufficient. But if you were lax in the obligatory duties, and you are a Muslim, and you neglected Ramadan and did not fast, or you delayed the obligatory Hajj, then you must perform the obligatory Hajj, and you must fast the days you broke your fast due to laxity.
As for the prayer, if you left the prayer, then leaving it is disbelief, so repentance is sufficient. Repentance, and you do not have to make up the missed prayers. If you repent, then you do not have to make up the missed prayers.
But if you were lax in the prayer, meaning: you prayed it at home, you did not pray it in congregation; repentance is sufficient, and praise be to Allah.
But if there are rights of people that you neglected... a debt you owe to people that you did not give them... thefts... wealth you plundered; return it to its owners, return it to its owners along with repentance to Allah Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.
