The Great Virtue of Forgiving One Who Wronged You
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I heard a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to the effect that he testified for a man that he would enter Paradise; and that was because he used to say when he went to bed: “O Allah, I have forgiven the one who wronged me. I have forgiven, so forgive me. I have pardoned, so pardon me. I have overlooked, so overlook me. You are the most generous and the most noble.”
The question is: If there are people who harm you and wrong you, and their harm continues, and you want Allah to take revenge for you against them and to turn their plots away from you, does this supplication prevent their harm and their ongoing wrongdoing?
Answer:
If this supplication is answered... it is good for the believer to be kind to his brothers by forgiving and pardoning, as Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: : [al-Baqarah:237] And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Ibn Majah 2203Sahih (Darussalam) And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 2588, so if a person is lenient and forgives the one who wronged him and transgressed against him, he will be rewarded. And if he seeks revenge from the one who wronged him and says: “O Allah, make it easy for me to take my right from him, O Allah, take my right from him,” there is no blame on him. Allah the Exalted said: [al-Nisa:148].
So, if a person asks his Lord for retribution, that Allah will take retribution for him from this man, and that Allah will take revenge for him for the right he has over him, and that He will be just to him against him, there is no blame in that. He asks his Lord to be just to him and to restrain his harm from him. But if he forgives and pardons and supplicates for him, that is a great virtue and a great rank. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.

وَأَنْ تَعْفُوا أَقْرَبُ لِلتَّقْوَىMay Allah have mercy on a person who is lenient when he sells, lenient when he buys, and lenient when he asks for payment.
رحم الله امرًأ سمحًا إذا باع، سمحًا إذا اشترى، سمحًا إذا اقتضىno one forgives another except that Allah increases his honor
ما زاد الله عبدًا بعفو إلا عزًاAllah does not like the public mention of evil except by one who has been wronged
لا يُحِبُّ اللَّهُ الْجَهْرَ بِالسُّوءِ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ إِلَّا مَنْ ظُلِمَSo, if a person asks his Lord for retribution, that Allah will take retribution for him from this man, and that Allah will take revenge for him for the right he has over him, and that He will be just to him against him, there is no blame in that.
