Sahih Muslim 2877c
says:
What is the meaning of having good expectations of Allah? Please guide us in light of that.

Answer:
This is an authentic hadith, narrated by Muslim in his Sahih:
None of you should court death but only hoping good from Allahلا يموتن أحدكم إلا وهو يحسن ظنه بالله
Sahih Muslim 2877a
And Allah says:
I am to my slave as he thinks of Meأنا عند ظن عبدي بي
Sahih al-Bukhari 7505
The meaning is that he has good expectations of Allah: that his Lord is generous, that He is noble, and that He is forgiving and merciful, (Glorified and Exalted is He), and that He accepts the repentance of His servants when they repent to Him, and that His bounty is immense. He has good expectations of his Lord, along with earnestness in righteous deeds, along with repentance.
One does not have good expectations of the Lord while persisting in sins. No, he has good expectations of his Lord along with righteous deeds, along with repentance, and along with earnestness in good. As for having good expectations of Allah while proceeding to sins and persisting in them; this is self-deception and is not permissible. But he has good expectations of his Lord that He will accept his repentance, and that He will pardon him. He strives in the means of pardon, such as charity, mercy toward the poor, frequent seeking of forgiveness, repentance, regret, and abandoning the sin, and frequent righteous deeds. Along with having good expectations of Allah, he has good expectations that Allah will accept them and that He will not reject them, Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
