The Ruling on the Ritual Bath for Major Ritual Impurity and Menstruation

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A questioner from Algeria says: Please explain to us the ritual bath for major ritual impurity and menstruation?

Answer:
The ritual bath for major ritual impurity is an individual obligation that is required, and so is the bath for menstruation. It is obligatory for a Muslim, when he has intercourse with his wife, to take a ritual bath for major ritual impurity; for Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says:
And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselvesوَإِنْ كُنْتُمْ جُنُبًا فَاطَّهَّرُوا
[Al-Ma'idah: 6]. The same applies to the woman, and to the one who is menstruating or has post-natal bleeding. When the blood stops, even if it is for less than forty days, it is obligatory for the woman with post-natal bleeding to take a ritual bath. And when the days of menstruation end and she sees the sign of purity, she must take a ritual bath, as an obligation, based on the saying of Allah (Mighty and Majestic):
And when they have purified themselves, then come to them from where Allah has ordained for youفَإِذَا تَطَهَّرْنَ فَأْتُوهُنَّ مِنْ حَيْثُ أَمَرَكُمُ اللَّهُ
[Al-Baqarah: 222].
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the menstruating woman and the woman with post-natal bleeding to take a ritual bath. So when her period ends, it is obligatory for her to take a ritual bath. And if she sees the sign of purity before that, it is also obligatory for her to take a ritual bath. The woman with post-natal bleeding is the same: if the forty days are completed, it is obligatory for her to take a ritual bath, and if she sees the sign of purity before that, it is obligatory for her to take a ritual bath.

The presenter: May Allah preserve you.
