The Ruling on Perfumes Containing Alcohol

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on using the perfumes known as "colonial," which contain alcohol?

Answer:
Perfumes known to contain intoxicating alcohol are not to be used, such as "colonial."
Many doctors have informed us that they are not free from spirit, and that it varies among them: some contain more than others, with some at 80%, some at 60%, some at 40%, and so on. Therefore, it should not be used. Although some people have been lenient in this matter and have used it, my advice to the student of knowledge is not to use this well-known product, namely the well-known "colonial" that contains spirit, which is intoxicating.
As for other perfumes, I do not know them, but if you know that they contain something intoxicating, and that a large amount of it intoxicates, then do not use them. Instead, use the well-known fragrances: rose oil, amber oil, and the well-known agarwood oil that contains nothing [intoxicating].
