Ruling on saying: “O Allah, forgive me and my parents” when the imam says: {and not those who go astray}

Question:
Another question from this questioner, Abu Muhammad, O Shaykh! He says: We hear some of the worshippers in the loud prayers, when the imam says: “and not those who go astray,” that this worshipper supplicates: “O Allah, forgive me and my parents and the deceased Muslims,” and then he says “Ameen” with the imam. Is this from the Sunnah, especially since he raises his voice and disturbs the worshippers?

Answer:
This is not prescribed. What is prescribed after “and not those who go astray” is to say: “Ameen.” As for saying: “O Allah, forgive me and my parents,” there is no evidence for it; it is not prescribed. But after the imam says “and not those who go astray,” the ma’mum (one praying behind the imam) says: “Ameen.” This is what is prescribed for the ma’mum.

The presenter: May Allah preserve you.
