Ruling on Sending the Udhiyah or 'Aqiqah Outside One's City
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Some people send the udhiyah or 'aqiqah to certain countries through individuals or banks, contrary to the Prophetic Sunnah. What is your Eminence's comment on that?
Answer:
It is better to slaughter the 'aqiqah in one's home. The 'aqiqah means: the sacrifice for the child, which is two sheep for a boy, and one sheep for a girl. It is called: 'aqiqah, and it is called: tamimah. Some people call it: tamimah, and it is called: nasi'ah. It is a confirmed recommended practice (sunnah muakkadah), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that two sheep be sacrificed for a boy, and one sheep for a girl, and that it be slaughtered on the seventh day. This is the best: the Muslim slaughters it in his home on the seventh day, eats from it, and feeds whomever he wishes from neighbors, relatives, and others, or distributes it, gives it as charity, and distributes it. He does not distribute it to those outside; the best is in his home, he eats from it, and feeds from it.
If he sends it to the outside—to the mujahideen or non-mujahideen—through a trustworthy agent who slaughters it there and distributes it; there is no harm in that. However, slaughtering it in his home among his family, reviving the Sunnah, displaying the Sunnah among themselves and their neighbors, and eating and feeding; this is the best, and it is the Sunnah.
