The ruling on having many intrusive thoughts during prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Does the reward of prayer decrease, O Shaykh, for a Muslim if a person has many intrusive thoughts and is distracted in his prayer?
Answer:
There is no doubt that a person gets from his prayer only what he comprehends of it; his reward and recompense are according to what he comprehends of his prayer. The more he turns to his prayer, is humble in it, and is present with his heart in it, the greater his reward becomes. And the more the intrusive thoughts increase, the less the reward becomes.
So what is prescribed for the believer is to turn to his prayer with his heart, and to strive to gather his heart for his prayer, and to be mindful of the remembrances and supplications in the prayer. Let him remember that he is in the presence of Allah, and that he is standing in the presence of Allah, so that his humility is magnified and his heart is present, as Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Mu'minun 23:1] those who are humble in their prayers [Al-Mu’minun:1-2]. And it was reported from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: , .
So the point is: that a person should turn to his prayer, and it is prescribed for him to take care of it, and to gather his heart for it, so that he is present in the presence of Allah. He reads with reflection, bows with a present heart, and prostrates with a present heart until he finishes his prayer, and his heart is present and humble. This is what is required of the believer, and the more the humility, the greater his reward and recompense.

Certainly will the believers have succeeded:
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ Indeed, a servant gets from his prayer only what he comprehends of it
إنه ليس للعبد من صلاته إلا ما عقل منهاIndeed, a servant stands in prayer and nothing is recorded for him from it except half of it, except a third of it, except a quarter of it, except a fifth of it, until he said: except a tenth of it
إن العبد يقوم في الصلاة لا يكتب له منها إلا نصفها، إلا ثلثها، إلا ربعها، إلا خمسها، حتى قال: إلا عشرهاSo the point is: that a person should turn to his prayer, and it is prescribed for him to take care of it, and to gather his heart for it, so that he is present in the presence of Allah.
