Treatment of the obsessions that befall a person

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Is a person held accountable for the obsessions of Satan that he finds in his heart?
A person is never held accountable for the obsessions of Satan that he finds in his heart;By the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (Indeed, Allah has pardoned my nation for what their hearts contemplate, as long as they do not act upon it or speak of it) The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) complained of this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he ordered them to seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan, and to stop these obsessions. If a person submits to the obsessions, he is in danger. But he must say to himself: Do I believe in these obsessions?Answer: He never believes in them; rather, he fights them with the utmost effort. Therefore, he must turn away from them, as long as they are not settled in his heart. He knows that if anyone among the people were to say them, he would fight him for it. Therefore, he turns away from them, and they do not harm him, and he proceeds in his state. If he doubts regarding divorce, or doubts regarding the ablution or the prayer, or something greater than that, let him stop this and turn away, and these obsessions will not harm him. This is a blessing from Allah (Mighty and Majestic) that Allah has made for us a spaciousness and an exit from these obsessions.

And I say to you: These obsessions only befall the one who has certainty and firm faith, in order to make him waver from his certainty into doubt. Satan does not come to the person whose heart is ruined; because he is finished,And for this, it was said to Ibn Abbas: The Jews say: "We do not have obsessions in our prayer, but the Muslims do." He said: [They are truthful; they do not have obsessions in their prayer, and what can Satan do with a ruined heart?] They focus on their prayer, but it is not accepted by Allah. He cannot think of anything other than the prayer in which he is, and he does not have obsessions, but his heart is ruined. As for the believer whose faith is firm, it is he upon whom Satan exerts his influence.
Therefore, control yourself now when Satan comes to you in prayer, and then you remember and focus on your prayer, he opens for you a second door. And if you control yourself and pay attention, he opens for you a third door. He is with you constantly in your prayer; if you restrain yourself from these obsessions, he opens for you another door, until you exit the prayer. But strive to ensure that the beginning of the prayer and the end of the prayer are controlled, perhaps Allah will forgive for you what is between them, as came in the hadith: (Whoever seeks forgiveness from Allah at the beginning of the day and at the end of the day, Allah will forgive for him what is between them) We ask Allah to help us and you.
