The Rule for Staying Overnight at Muzdalifah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the rule for staying overnight at Muzdalifah, and if staying overnight is not possible and the pilgrim is content with merely passing through it, what is the ruling on his Hajj?

Answer:
If one misses Muzdalifah, he must offer a sacrificial animal, which is slaughtered in Makkah for the poor; because standing there is obligatory. As for if he stands there for most of the night and departs after the halfway point, there is no harm. If he departs from it after the middle of the night, there is no harm. The best is to remain there for the entire night. When the dawn breaks, he prays the Fajr prayer with the Muslims, then stands remembering Allah facing the qiblah, and supplicates until it lightens. When it lightens, he departs to Mina before the sun rises. This is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did.
As for the weak among women and the very old men, and those with them, there is no harm in their departing from Muzdalifah to Mina after the middle of the night. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) granted them a dispensation in that. As for the strong and the majority of people, it is prescribed for them to remain in Muzdalifah until the Fajr prayer. When they have prayed it, they sit there until it lightens for remembrance and supplication, until they lighten. When it lightens, they depart to Mina before the sun rises. This is the best.
