The Ruling on the Heir Paying Zakah on Behalf of the Deceased if the Deceased Did Not Pay It

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Our brother, Bawan Khasan Muhammad Saeed from Zanzibar, Tanzania, has another question in which he asks: Is it permissible for an heir to pay zakah for his father who did not pay it?

Answer:
Yes. If the deceased did not pay zakah on his wealth, it is obligatory for the heirs to pay the zakah if they know that their deceased did not fulfill the zakah for one year or two years. This is because it is a right upon him, a debt on their father or their deceased, just as it would be for a brother or the like. Therefore, if they know this, they must pay it on his behalf, seek forgiveness for him, and make du'a for him if he was a Muslim. Yes.
