Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He asks and says: I work as a mechanic. What should I do if the time for prayer comes while I am at work? Am I allowed to pray in my work clothes? These work clothes have oil and grease in them, and some people say: it is not permissible to pray in them, and I do not have enough time to change them. What should I do? I want to pray in congregation. Please advise us, may Allah reward you.
Answer:
It is obligatory for you to pray with your Muslim brothers in congregation; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Bulugh al-Maram 2:308, it was asked of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): What is the excuse? He said: Fear or illness.
And because the one upon whom are peace and blessings, when a blind man came to him asking him and saying to him: O Messenger of Allah! I have no guide to lead me to the mosque, so do I have a dispensation to pray in my house? He said to him, the one upon whom are peace and blessings:Sahih Muslim 653 He said: Yes. He said: , so this is a blind man who has no guide, and yet he is ordered to respond to the mu'adhdhin and attend the prayer.
And upon you, my brother! is to change the clothes that your brothers are harmed by if they have a smell that harms them. But if they do not harm them, if there is no smell in them that harms them, then pray in them, and praise be to Allah; because they are pure. But if they have smells that harm them, or dirt that transfers to them, to the one next to you, the dirt transfers to him, then no, change them. Put on the clothes when the mu'adhdhin calls, and go to the prayer.
And upon you is to fear Allah in that, this is a great matter, this is the pillar of Islam, prayer is the pillar of Islam, so one must take care of it, the greatest obligatory duty, and the most important obligatory duty after the two testimonies is this prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding it:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2616Hasan (Darussalam) And he, the one upon whom are peace and blessings, said regarding it: Mishkat al-Masabih 578.
And this is a great warning that whoever abandons it will be gathered with these disbelievers; because if he neglects it for the sake of leadership and kingship, he becomes similar to Pharaoh, and I seek refuge in Allah, and he will be gathered with him in the Fire on the Day of Resurrection.
And if he neglects it for the sake of ministry and job, he becomes similar to Haman, the minister of Pharaoh, and he will be gathered with him in the Fire on the Day of Resurrection.
And if he neglects it for the sake of wealth and desires, he becomes similar to Qarun, the merchant of the Children of Israel, whose arrogance and transgression led him to abandon the truth, and he will be gathered with him in the Fire on the Day of Resurrection.
And if he abandons prayer for the sake of trade, buying and selling, he becomes similar to Abu Jahl, the merchant of the people of Makkah, whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) killed on the day of Uhud as a disbeliever, and he will be gathered with him in the Fire on the Day of Resurrection.
So it is obligatory for the worker, whether a mechanic or otherwise, it is obligatory for him to pray with the Muslims in congregation, and to wear clothes that do not harm people, that are good and sound, and to avoid bad smells if he consumes garlic, or onions, or smokes, he should beware of that, so that there are no bad smells at the time of prayer, and so that there is no dirt in his clothes that harms people. But if it does not harm people, there is no harm in praying in them if they are pure.
But that he wears good and beautiful clothes for prayer, this is the best. Allah the Exalted says: [Al-A'raf: 31] meaning at every prayer, so what is prescribed for the believer at prayer is that he wears good clothes, he heads to the mosque with good clothes with his brothers, because he stands before Allah. We ask Allah for success for everyone. Yes.

It is obligatory for you to pray with your Muslim brothers in congregation; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever hears the call for prayer and and does not come (to the mosque for prayer), his prayer will not be accepted from him, unless he has a (legitimate) excuse.
من سمع النداء فلم يأت فلا صلاة له إلا من عذرAnd because the one upon whom are peace and blessings, when a blind man came to him asking him and saying to him: O Messenger of Allah!
