The ruling on facing the qiblah when greeting the deceased and visiting the grave

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Among the questions of the brother questioner, he says: Your Eminence, in the cemetery, and when visiting the grave to greet the deceased, is it prescribed for a person to stand facing the qiblah with the grave in front of him, or should he face the direction of the east so that he is facing the face of the deceased?

Answer:
There is no specific ruling on this. The Sunnah is to stand at the grave and greet the deceased, whether from behind him or in front of him. The important thing is that he greets him. If he comes from in front of him so that he is facing the face of the deceased, there is no harm. The matter is broad in this regard. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said
Visit the graves, for they will remind you of the Hereafter.زوروا القبور؛ فإنها تذكركم الآخرة
Sunan Ibn Majah 1569Sahih (Darussalam)
and did not specify a particular direction, whether he stands at the head, on the right, on the left, or behind. The matter is broad, and praise be to Allah. The important thing is that he visits the graves and greets them. If he singles out some people, such as his father or his brother, and visits him and singles him out and greets him, the matter is broad, praise be to Allah. Yes.
