What is the meaning of the prostration of gratitude and its ruling? And what is its supplication?

Question:
The listening sister (B. A. H.) from Buraydah in the Qassim region sent a message containing four questions. In her first question, she asks and says: What is the prostration of gratitude, and does one prostrate in prayer or without prayer? Is its ruling the same as the prostration of prayer regarding ritual purity, covering the private parts, and other matters, or not? And what is the recommended supplication in it?

Answer:
The prostration of gratitude is prostrating for a general blessing that Allah has bestowed upon the Muslims, or a specific blessing that Allah has bestowed upon a person, such as having a child, or being safe from an accident, and the like. When the news of the killing of Musaylimah the Liar reached al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), he fell down prostrating to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) in gratitude to Allah for the blessing of killing the wicked, the enemy of Allah, Musaylimah the Liar.
So when a person is informed of something that pleases him, and he prostrates to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) in gratitude, this is called the prostration of gratitude. In it, one says what is said in the prostration of prayer: Glory be to my Lord, the Most High; Glory be to my Lord, the Most High; Glory be to You, O Allah, our Lord, and praise be to You; O Allah, forgive me. And the person supplicates in it just as in the prostration of prayer, equally.
The correct view is that ritual purity is not a condition for it. Rather, it is like the prostration of recitation. The correct view is that ritual purity is not a condition for either of them. Rather, there is no barrier to prostrating even if one is not in a state of ritual purity. So if one is reciting the Qur'an and is not in a state of ritual purity, and he comes upon the verses of prostration, it is prescribed for him to prostrate even if he is not in a state of ritual purity. And so it is with the prostration of gratitude; it does not have the condition of ritual purity. Rather, one prostrates even if he is not in a state of ritual purity, because it is not of the same kind as prayer. Rather, it is humility before Allah and submission, and worship of Him (Glorified and Exalted is He) of the kind of dhikr, of the kind of tasbih and tahlil, of the kind of reciting the Qur'an. So it does not have the condition of ritual purity, just as the one who recites from other than the mushaf does not have the condition of ritual purity. So likewise, the one who remembers, the one who says tasbih, the one who says tahlil, and the one who seeks forgiveness may do this even if he is not in a state of ritual purity. This is the correct view. And some of the scholars of knowledge said: It is necessary to have ritual purity like in prayer. But that is a weak position with no evidence for it. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
