The ruling on one whom the doctor advised not to fast

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The doctor also advised me not to fast because of my urgent need to drink water due to a dry throat, resulting from taking sedative medications. Is fasting dropped from me? Or is the fidyah obligatory?

Answer:
This differs. If you are able to fast, then you must fast, and it is not permissible for you to abandon fasting and pay the fidyah. However, if the trustworthy doctor, or two trustworthy doctors, determine that the illness you have prevents fasting and that fasting causes you clear, permanent harm, then feeding people is sufficient for you. As expiation for each day, feed one poor person, like the elderly person who is incapacitated but of sound mind, yet unable to fast due to his advanced age. He feeds one poor person for each day, like the sick person whose recovery is not expected and for whom fasting is difficult, of the same category as the elderly incapacitated person. Fasting is dropped from him, and he performs for each day half a sa' of dates or other staple food of the country for the poor. If he gathers the total for the entire month and gives it to one poor person, or two, or more, there is no harm. Yes.
