Ruling on combining voluntary fasting with the expiation of an oath in a single intention

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q494: The questioner asks: Is it permissible for me to combine the intention of voluntary fasting with the intention of fasting for the expiation of an oath, such as fasting the white days with the intention of making up the expiation of the oath?
A494: This is not valid. For the oath, you must fast an obligatory fast if you are unable to feed or clothe people. You must fast an obligatory fast for it, and you do not perform a voluntary fast and count it toward the obligatory one. This is not sufficient. If you want to increase your reward, fast the days for which fasting is prescribed and recommended. As for the obligatory fast, you perform it with the intention of the obligation.
