Question:
The last question we are presenting from our sister's questions in this session is: Are the hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) revelation from Allah?
Answer:
Yes, the hadiths of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) are revelation from Allah. Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) says: : [Al-Najm:1]. This is an oath from Allah by the star, and He swears by what He wills of His creation, (Mighty and Majestic) , just as He the Exalted said: [Al-Tur:2]. And He said: [Al-Buruj:1], [Al-Tariq:1], [Al-Layl:1]. All of these are oaths from Allah, so He, (Glorified and Exalted is He), swears by what He wills of His creation; because in these created things are signs and indications of His great power and that He is the Lord of the worlds, (Mighty and Majestic) . He, (Exalted and Majestic is He), says: [Al-Najm:1-2], meaning: Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) [Al-Najm:2]. Misguidance is the opposite of knowledge, and leading astray is not acting upon knowledge. So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is not a misleader, nor is he one who leads astray; rather, he is a righteous, rightly guided, knowledgeable of the truth, (peace and blessings be upon him), on the right path, so he is guided and rightly guided in all his deeds, (peace and blessings be upon him).
Then He said after that: [Al-Najm:3], for his speech is not from his own desire, but from revelation; for this reason He said: [Al-Najm:4] is a negation, the meaning is: it is nothing but a revelation that is revealed, meaning: his speech is nothing but revelation from Allah, (Glorified and Exalted is He) . So if he says such and such, commands such and such, and forbids such and such, it is all revelation from Allah, (Mighty and Majestic), by the explicit text of this noble verse.
And likewise by his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) when Abdullah ibn Amr said to him: (peace and blessings be upon him), or as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said.
So the point is that he does not report from his own desire or from himself, but rather he reports what Allah reveals to him of commands, prohibitions, and legislation, (peace and blessings be upon him). It has been mentioned previously that Allah swears by what He wills of His creation, but the servant has no right to swear except by his Lord. It is not permissible for a person to swear except by Allah alone. So he has no right to swear by his father, or by trust, or by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or by the Ka'bah, or by the honor of so-and-so, or by his life. All of this is not permissible. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih al-Bukhari 2679. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Mishkat al-Masabih 3418.
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Musnad Ahmad 329Sahih (Darussalam). It was narrated by Imam Ahmad with a sound chain from 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) . The scholars said: The shirk (associating partners with Allah) here is minor shirk. Swearing by other than Allah is minor shirk, and it may become major shirk if one's heart holds the exaltation of the created thing like the greatness of Allah, or that it is permissible to worship it alongside Allah, or something similar to that; then it becomes major shirk. We seek refuge in Allah.
So the result and the summary is that the servant has no right to swear by created things, but rather he swears by Allah alone. As for our Lord, (Glorified and Exalted is He), He has the right to swear by what He wills of His creation, and no one can restrict Him, (Mighty and Majestic) .
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good. And the summary is also that the hadith is revelation from Allah, and that was our sister's question?
The Shaykh: Yes.
The presenter: May Allah bless you.
The Shaykh: Revelation from Allah. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) says: :
By the star when it descends,
(1) By the mount (2) And [by] a Book inscribed
By the sky containing great stars
And the sky and the star that comes down
And [by] the night when it covers
(1) By the star when it descends, (2) Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed
Nor is he a deviator
Then He said after that:
Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination.
It is not but a revelation revealed,
Indeed
إنAnd likewise by his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) when Abdullah ibn Amr said to him:
Shall we write down what you say? He said: Yes, write it down. By Him in whose hand is my soul, nothing but truth comes out of this.
So the point is that he does not report from his own desire or from himself, but rather he reports what Allah reveals to him of commands, prohibitions, and legislation, (peace and blessings be upon him). Whoever has to take an oath should swear by Allah or remain silent.
Do not swear by your fathers, or by your mothers, or by rivals (Cf. Al-Qur’an 2:22 etc. The reference is to idols or false gods) to God; and swear by God only when you are speaking the truth.
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
whoever swears by anything other than Allah has committed an act of shirk.
So the result and the summary is that the servant has no right to swear by created things, but rather he swears by Allah alone.
