What the latecomer catches up with the imam: is it the beginning of his prayer or the end?

Question:
A person caught up with the imam for the last two rak'ahs of the 'Asr prayer, after the completion of the middle tashahhud and the imam standing up for the last two rak'ahs. How does he complete his prayer? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
When his imam says the taslim, he stands up to perform two rak'ahs. The last two rak'ahs that he makes up are the end of his prayer, and the beginning of it is what he caught up with the imam. So the two rak'ahs he caught up with the imam are the beginning of his prayer. If it is feasible for him to recite something in addition to the al-Fatihah, if the imam prolonged his standing, that is prescribed; because they are the beginning of his prayer. The rule is that what the latecomer catches up with the imam is the beginning of his prayer, and what he makes up is the end of his prayer; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): So the completion is for making up the two rak'ahs that he makes up, since he missed the first two rak'ahs; they become the end of his prayer.
