The ruling on marrying a woman of bad reputation or keeping her

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A man married a woman whose reputation he heard was bad, and she has a case in court due to her bad character. What is the validity of this marriage, despite the opposition of the husband's family to this marriage, which is due to her bad morals? And is it permissible for his family to boycott him?

Answer:
The marriage is valid even if she is of bad character, but if she does not suit him, or if his parents love that he divorce her, he should divorce her with one divorce to be dutiful to his parents, if his parents mentioned something that necessitates divorce due to her bad reputation.
As for if she is a known fornicator, it is established that she is a fornicator, and she has not repented; then it is not permissible for him to marry her, for a fornicator is not one whom anyone may marry until she repents and her repentance is known.
As for merely hearing that she is of bad character, or of bad reputation; this does not prevent marriage, but the believer seeks out a woman of good reputation, and does not proceed to one whose reputation is bad, rather he seeks the righteous woman whose reputation is good, just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Choose the religious, may your hands be rubbed with dust (i.e., may you prosper).فاظفر بذات الدين تربت يداك
Sunan Ibn Majah 1858Sahih (Darussalam)
.
So a person does not look for one whose reputation is bad, but the marriage is valid, and it is prescribed for him to look for the good woman, whose reputation is good and whose family's reputation is good, this is how he should seek.
