The first question of Fatwa number ( 7503 )
Q 1: I proposed to a Muslim sister, who holds a bachelor's degree in science and was studying for a master's degree, but Allah the Exalted guided her, so she stayed home, left her job, and wore the niqab, praise be to Allah. I do not vouch for her before Allah the Exalted, and I consider her to be on the right path, if Allah wills, but the problem is her family; her entire family is a people of great evil... When we asked about her family from more than one source, various sources: neighbors, owners of adjacent shops, relatives of ours in the same place, many sources, we learned shameful and sorrowful things about them, including: that her mother, while she was alive, had a very bad reputation in her youth. Also: she has a sister who follows the same rotten path, also having a bad reputation. The father, who is still present, has no say, and the mother is the head of the household. The brothers: one is a thief who has been imprisoned multiple times, one is a drunkard addicted to narcotics, and one is one who violates the honor of women. The entire family (does not perform the prayer) except the noble sister, of course... In addition to this, they are foul-mouthed, cursing the religion, filthy in everything. The point is that I hesitated about proposing to her, and before me was the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
, but the situation of this sister worried me that I would leave her in these circumstances: from oppression to cursing to beating to driving her out of prayer. I told myself: if I leave her, and this one and that one, it will be a mistake. The point is that I contracted the marriage with her, hoping in her religion and morals, if Allah wills. Did I err in what I undertook? I ask for clarification. We agreed with her at the proposal not to visit her family. And it is my intention that it be a boycott, but she, after that, recently, out of fear of being undutiful to her parents. Of course, she does not know anything about the wickedness of her mother and sister; this is the matter that scatters my mind and intellect. When I went to visit her at their home, I was afflicted with a severe state of headache, confusion, and nausea, a terrible state that I could not resist; merely mentioning them and their names makes my mind boil. Truly, if Allah wills, the construction will be completed soon, if Allah wills, and I hastened with the construction and preparation, despite it costing me a great deal, just to free her from what she is in, and then so that I would not see them or visit them, I endured more. My honorable professor: Her family mocks the verses of Allah, and the Qur'an, and Islam, and the noble scholars. How can I visit them or leave her to visit them alone? And this is impossible, for she, praise be to Allah, will not go out except with me, by the permission of Allah the Exalted. I ask for an answer to this: Is she undutiful to her parents when she obeys me in not visiting them? This is with the knowledge that I will submit to the command of Allah the Exalted, if Allah wills
A 1: If the reality is as you mentioned, there is no blame on you in marrying her; rather, you have done well in marrying her and saving her from what is feared for her. You should advise her family and keep them under care with good admonition. If you visit them, let your visit to them be for enjoining good and forbidding evil. If they do not respond to you, then isolate yourselves from them out of fear of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) and to stay away from evil. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
