Ruling on marrying a woman who does not pray

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The listener (M. A. S.) asks: What is the ruling on marrying a woman who does not pray?
Answer: It is not permissible for a Muslim to marry a woman who does not pray; because abandoning the prayer is disbelief, major disbelief according to the correct opinion, and minor disbelief according to others. Therefore, it is not permissible for him to marry a woman who does not pray; because she is a disbeliever according to the correct opinion until she prays. And among the women, by the praise of Allah, the Muslim women are sufficient for him. He should seek, he should seek a good woman. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A woman may be married for four reasons: for her property, her status. her beauty and her religion, so try to get one who is religious, may your hand be besmeared with dust.تنكح المرأة لأربع: لمالها، ولحسبها، ولجمالها، ولدينها، فاظفر بذات الدين تربت يداك
Sahih Muslim 1466
So the believer should seek a woman of religion, known for modesty, prayer, and good reputation, so that he chooses her as his partner. As for one who is known for laxity in her religion, or for abandoning the prayer, then there is no desire for her, and he should not marry her. And his marriage to her is not valid if she does not pray, except if he is like her and does not pray; then their marriage is valid, and they are both disbelievers at that time, just as the marriage of a polytheist to a polytheist woman, a Jew to a Jewish woman, and a Christian to a Christian woman is valid, all of them being disbelievers. Their marriage is valid among themselves if the other conditions are met. So the one who does not pray with the one who does not pray, their marriage is valid if the other conditions are met.
As for the Muslim whom Allah has granted uprightness and prayer, it is not permissible for him to marry a woman who does not pray. We ask Allah for safety and well-being. Yes.
The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
