The Superiority of Performing Voluntary Hajj Over Giving Charity
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner, O Shaykh, asks: What is the best for a person who has performed the obligatory Hajj several times? Do you think he should give the cost of a voluntary Hajj as charity, or what? May Allah reward you both.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family, and his Companions, and whoever follows his guidance. As for what follows:
Hajj has a great status and a great virtue; so if Hajj is facilitated for him, the best for him is Hajj, which is better than charity; because of his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 933Sahih (Darussalam).
The state has issued a statement that it is recommended for one who has performed the obligatory Hajj not to perform Hajj again until after five years; for the sake of providing relief for the people, and this was a matter studied in the Council of Senior Scholars, and the Council approved it to provide relief for the people.
So if it is the obligatory Hajj, and he loves to perform Hajj every five years as the state has indicated—may Allah guide it—this is good, and if he gives charity, there is much good in charity, and there is a great virtue in it. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah preserve you, O Shaykh.
