It is obligatory for the one who finds lost property in the Haram not to donate it to the mosque, nor to anyone other than the mosque; rather, he must announce it continuously in the Haram: "Who is the owner of these dirhams? Who is the owner of this gold? Who is the owner of such-and-such?" continuously.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1355a So it is not to be spent on such-and-such, nor on such-and-such, but rather it is to be announced until its owner comes.
