The ruling on one who is tempted by women, particularly in the markets
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Your brother Yusuf Muhammad, the honorable Shaykh Abdulaziz, may Allah guide you. We are young men who are tempted by the appearance of women in the market and elsewhere. What is your opinion?
Answer:
Every young man must fear Allah, keep his distance from these markets, and not enter them except out of necessity. He should not enter these markets except out of necessity; he should not stroll around, but only enter out of a dire necessity. And if he finds someone who can fulfill his need, let him strive to do so.
Likewise, women are even more obligated in this regard. They must fear Allah and strive to avoid entering the markets. If it is possible for her husband or a close relative to fulfill her need, let her do so. One of the calamities is the laxity of husbands and guardians in this matter, as you heard in the seminar. If the men, the husbands and guardians, were to fulfill the needs of the women, cooperate, and refrain from this laxity, the good would be immense.
...And the young men likewise, if they enter the markets, the temptation has spread. If he enters and strolls among the women, he has in reality exposed himself to temptation.
He should therefore be cautious and not enter. Do not enter the markets; go from your home to your mosque, to your school, to your institute, and beware of this evil. Beware of Satan. The one who is lax and loiters in the markets among the women is in reality working toward his own destruction. If he falls into the trap, he has no one to blame but himself.
It is obligatory for him to be cautious and stay away from these markets full of evils. And if there is good in him, let him enjoin good and forbid evil. Let him enter to enjoin good and forbid evil, and to speak about the women and others, so that he has participated and contributed with the committee to removing these evils. This is if there is good in him.
But if he enters to look and enjoy the women, he has participated in falsehood and participated in the affliction. He is deserving of being seized by Satan and Satan gaining control over him. There is no power and no strength except with Allah. We ask Allah for well-being for everyone.
