The obligation regarding the beard is to let it grow and let it hang down

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Our brother asks another question, saying: What is the ruling on one who levels his beard, making it even with itself?
Answer: It is obligatory to let the beard grow, to leave it as it is, and to let it hang down, and not to subject it to anything; for it is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Trim your mustaches, let your beards grow, and differ from the polytheists
It is agreed upon as authentic from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). Al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih, may Allah have mercy on him, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Cut the beards short, let the beards grow, and be distinct from the polytheists.
And Muslim narrated in his Sahih, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Trim closely the moustache, and grow beard, and thus act against the fire-worshippers.
Sahih Muslim 260
These hadiths all indicate the obligation of letting the beards grow, leaving them as they are, and letting them hang down, and the obligation of trimming the mustaches and shaving them.
This is what is prescribed, and this is the obligation to which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) guided. In this, one follows the example of him (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions, and it is a contradiction of the Zoroastrians and the polytheists, and a distance from imitating women.
As for what al-Tirmidhi, may Allah have mercy on him, narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he used to take from his beard in length and width; it is a false report according to the scholars of knowledge, it is not authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Some people have clung to it, and it is a report that is not authentic; because in its chain is 'Umar ibn Harun al-Balkhi, and he is accused of lying. So it is not permissible for the believer to cling to this false hadith, nor to take a dispensation based on what some scholars say; for the Sunnah is the governing authority, and Allah says, Exalted and Majestic is He:
He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah
[Al-Nisa: 80] And He says, Glorified is He:
Say, "Obey Allah and obey the Messenger; but if you turn away - then upon him is only that [duty] with which he has been charged, and upon you is that with which you have been charged. And if you obey him, you will be [rightly] guided. And there is not upon the Messenger except the [responsibility for] clear notification."
[Al-Nur: 54] (peace and blessings be upon him). Yes.
