Ruling on Lengthening the Hair on the Head

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Now, and by the way, lengthening the hair on the head?

Answer:
Its original ruling is permissible. The Arabs used to lengthen their hair, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to shave his head (peace and blessings be upon him), sometimes reaching his shoulders, and sometimes higher depending on how he shaved it during Hajj and 'Umrah. He would shave it during Hajj and shorten it during 'Umrah (peace and blessings be upon him). If a person lengthens it without a bad intention, not for the sake of women, and not for the sake of causing fitnah, then there is no harm in that. However, if he lengthens it in a place, a country, or a village where he is suspected of evil, or where evil is presumed of him, then he should leave it off so that he is not suspected of evil. And if he lengthens it for the sake of women, fitnah, and flirting with women, then it is a munkar (what is wrong). We ask Allah for safety.
