He has a third question in this letter, in which he says: Allah the Exalted said: [At-Tawbah: 117] up to His statement ﷺ: [At-Tawbah: 119]. He asks about the interpretation of these noble verses of the Qur'an?
Answer: Its meaning is clear. It informs us that He, the Exalted, has accepted the repentance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Muhajireen, and the Ansar because of their good deeds and their following of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) during the time of hardship, which was the expedition of Tabuk. So He informed that He accepted their repentance and affirmed the repentance again because of their good deeds and because of their jihad in the cause of Allah. So He, the Exalted, accepted their repentance, pardoned them, and forgave them because of their righteous deeds and their sincere repentance. And so it was with the three who were left behind, namely Ka'b ibn Malik and his two companions. They were left behind from the expedition of Tabuk because of some laziness and negligence until they missed the expedition, and their being left behind became without an excuse. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from Tabuk and asked them, they informed him that they had no excuse, but rather it was negligence until the matter was neglected. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered their boycott and that they not be spoken to until Allah decrees for them. So fifty nights passed over them while they were boycotted, and no one spoke to them. Then Allah revealed their repentance in these verses in His statement: [At-Tawbah: 118].
So Allah accepted their repentance, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke to them and ordered the people and permitted them to speak to them because of their truthfulness. For this reason, He, the Exalted, said: [At-Tawbah: 119]. So the consequence of truthfulness is praiseworthy, and the consequence of lying is dire. So these three told the truth and were patient, so Allah accepted their repentance and pardoned them ﷻ. Yes.

Allah has already forgiven the Prophet and the Muhajireen and the Ansar who followed him in the hour of difficulty after the hearts of a party of them had almost inclined [to doubt], and then He forgave them. Indeed, He was to them Kind and Merciful.
