Ruling on taking an advance salary if it is from forbidden wealth

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a letter we received from the questioner Ahmad Salem al-Azab Mashuli, from the people of Bab al-Mandab in the Yemen Arab Republic. He says in his letter, first question: I was a teacher for students memorizing the Noble Qur'an in one of the neighboring villages for a monthly salary, and the salary was paid to me by the students' fathers. After a short period, it became clear to me that this salary was from forbidden wealth. Despite knowing this, I continued teaching for six months. I ask you to inform me of the ruling on this salary that I received during this period, and whether I have any reward for this teaching or not?
Answer: If you know that it is from forbidden wealth, do not eat it or take it. What has entered your possession, give it in charity to the poor or spend it in a charitable project. If you ate the previous amount that you did not know about, I hope that there is nothing upon you because you did not know. And Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, says regarding the usurers:
So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord and desists may have what is past, and his affair rests with Allahفَمَنْ جَاءَهُ مَوْعِظَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِ فَانتَهَى فَلَهُ مَا سَلَفَ وَأَمْرُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ
[Surat al-Baqarah: 275].
So what entered your possession before you knew, I hope there is no blame on you regarding it; because you did not know. If you give its equivalent in charity and rid yourself of it, that is safer for you. As for what you knew was forbidden and then you took it, it is not yours. Rather, it is obligatory for you to remove it from your wealth and spend it in some forms of good, such as giving charity to some of the poor, without informing them about its source. For example, spending it on renovating some restrooms, or paying off the debt of a person who is unable to pay, or the like. Do not eat it yourself because you knew it was forbidden, so it is not permissible for you to eat it. Yes. And as for you, you are rewarded, if Allah wills, for teaching the Qur'an. You may take a wage for teaching the Qur'an from the public treasury or from the people. You are upon good, if Allah wills. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The best among you is he who learns and teaches the Qur'an.خيركم من تعلم القرآن وعلمه
Sunan Abi Dawud 1452Sahih (Al-Albani)
And he said:
You are most entitled to take wages for doing a Ruqya with Allah's Book.إن أحق ما أخذتم عليه أجراً كتاب الله
Sahih al-Bukhari 5737
So the teacher is permitted to take a wage according to the correct opinion, and there is no blame on him, and he is rewarded. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
