The ruling on a man taking his wife's salary or part of it
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I have a wife who works and receives a salary. If I take it from her, or if she takes part of it, is it lawful or forbidden? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
It is her right to it, and it comes from her wealth; unless she permits you to take the entire salary or part of it with a clear permission that contains no doubt; in that case, there is no harm for you; based on the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) in Surat al-Nisa: [al-Nisa:4].
So if she is pleased with giving you the salary or part of the salary, there is no blame on you. But if you threaten her with divorce, or with boycotting her, or with harming her if she does not give it to you, this is not permissible for you, because she is not pleased with it, but rather out of fear of you, or of your divorce, she gives you the money or part of the money. No, this is not permissible. But you must speak kindly and treat her well; if she permits you to take something, praise be to Allah, otherwise leave her and her wealth alone, spend on her and be patient, fulfill the obligatory duties, and be good in character. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: So you must have good character and not harm or boycott your wife without right. Do not be a spendthrift, and do not be bad in character with your family. Allah says: [al-Nisa:19]. Thus says our Lord (Glorified and Exalted is He) , and He says (Glorified and Exalted is He): [al-Baqarah:228].
So it is obligatory for you to treat her with kind words, a pleasant face, good conduct, and appropriate spending... in the bedroom and otherwise. You should be good in the bedroom and elsewhere, with good character, kind words, a pleasant face, and refraining from harm and beating without right. This is what is required of the husband.
And she, too, must do the same: have good character, a good manner, kind words, good conduct, and listen and obey you in what is right. This is what is obligatory for you both. Her wealth is hers, and your wealth is yours, unless you are pleased to give her something, or she is pleased to give you something. Then the matter is broad, and praise be to Allah. If she did not stipulate that she would work, then you have the choice: either you allow her to work and her salary is hers, or you prevent her from working and she stays in the house, and praise be to Allah. But if it was stipulated upon you that she would work, then Muslims are bound by their conditions, and it is obligatory for you to enable her to fulfill her condition, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Bulugh al-Maram 8:32 It is agreed upon that it is authentic.
So it is obligatory for you to enable her to perform her job, whether teaching or otherwise, as was stipulated upon you, and her wealth is hers, unless she permits you to take something of it or all of it, and she is of sound mind. Then there is no harm for you, and praise be to Allah. But this must be without coercion, without injustice to her, and without harming her. If she permits it without coercion and without harm, then there is no harm, and praise be to Allah.

But if they give up willingly to you anything of it, then take it in satisfaction and ease.
So if she is pleased with giving you the salary or part of the salary, there is no blame on you. The best of you are those who are best to their families
Righteousness is good character
And live with them in kindness
And due to the wives is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable
So it is obligatory for you to treat her with kind words, a pleasant face, good conduct, and appropriate spending... in the bedroom and otherwise. So it is obligatory for you to enable her to perform her job, whether teaching or otherwise, as was stipulated upon you, and her wealth is hers, unless she permits you to take something of it or all of it, and she is of sound mind.
