The Ruling on Sufficing with the Utterance and Belief in the Two Testimonies

The program also asks the Shaykh: Is it sufficient to utter and believe in this pillar of the pillars of Islam, or is it necessary to have other things for a person's Islam to be complete and his faith to be complete?
Answer: This pillar is the means by which one enters Islam. If one testifies that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, with truthfulness, certainty, and knowledge of their meanings, and acts upon them, he enters Islam. Then he is required to perform the prayer and the other rulings. For this reason, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Mu'adh to Yemen, he said to him:
Call them to testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. If they do that, inform them that Allah has made obligatory upon them five prayers in the day and night. If they obey you in that, inform them that Allah has made obligatory upon them a charity to be taken from their rich and returned to their poor.
. He did not command them to pray until after the oneness of Allah and belief in the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). So they are first required to have the oneness of Allah and belief in the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). If the disbeliever enters into that and embraces Islam, he has the ruling of Muslims. Then he is required to perform the prayer and the remaining matters of the religion. If he refuses to do so, he has other rulings. If he refuses the prayer, he is given the choice to repent; if he repents, well and good, otherwise he is killed. If he refuses zakah, opposes it, and fights to defend it, he is fought in the same way the Companions fought those who withheld zakah. Fasting is likewise; if he refuses, the imam disciplines him and admonishes him in a way that deters him from abandoning fasting. Hajj is likewise; if he abandons it while he is able, he is disciplined until he performs Hajj. And so it is with the remaining sins: for those that have a fixed punishment, the fixed punishment is applied, and for those that do not have a fixed punishment, discretionary punishment and discipline are applied.
So the summary is: The foundation is the two testimonies. Whenever one testifies that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, he enters Islam and has the ruling of Muslims. If he dies immediately, he is among the people of Paradise. If he lives until the time of prayer, for example, he embraces Islam at sunrise and then dies before the midday prayer, he dies upon Islam, even though he did not pray anything or do anything. This has happened to some of the Companions who embraced Islam and were killed immediately, so they became among the people of Paradise without doing any work other than the oneness of Allah and testifying to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) as a messenger, and believing in Allah and His Messenger. If he reaches the time of prayer, he is commanded to pray. Then, if he accumulates wealth and possesses wealth that reaches the threshold for zakah, he is commanded to pay zakah. If he reaches Ramadan, he is commanded to fast. If he is able to perform Hajj, he is commanded to perform Hajj in its time. And so on. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you. So he has the ruling of Muslims in terms of what?
The Shaykh: All the rulings.
The presenter: All the rulings.
The Shaykh: In this world and the Hereafter. He is required to fulfill the matters of Islam and the rights of Islam. If he dies in his state before the prayer comes, before the time of prayer comes, he dies upon complete Islam and enters Paradise. But if he lives and refuses to pray, then this is a matter of consideration. He is required to pray; if he persists in it, he is considered a disbeliever according to a group of scholars. If he persists in abandoning it and does not respond, he is considered a disbeliever. Other scholars said: It is disbelief less than major disbelief, so he deserves to be killed, but it is not major disbelief, just as if he abandoned zakah or fasting. But the correct view is: Whenever he abandons the prayer specifically, because the prayer has a great status, if he abandons it intentionally out of negligence and laziness, his ruling is the ruling of one who denies it; he is killed as a disbeliever, according to the correct view.
As for the majority of jurists, they said: He is killed as a sinner, for a fixed punishment, and for disbelief less than major disbelief. This is the view of most of the later jurists, meaning: after the Companions. As for the Companions, Abdullah, the brother of al-Aqil, transmitted their consensus that whoever abandons it is a disbeliever. Yes. We ask Allah for safety. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
