The Ruling on Sewing the Garments of Ihram
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A message was received for the program from our brother Khalid Muhammad Haniddu. Our brother says: If a person is in the state of ihram for Hajj or 'Umrah and his ihram garment tears because he fell on the ground, is it permissible for him to sew it, or not?
Answer: He may sew it, and he may replace it; there is no harm if his ihram garment, his izar (lower garment), or his rida' (upper garment) tears and he sews it. Likewise, there is no harm if he replaces it with another. The sewn garment that is prohibited is the sewn garment that encloses the body, such as a shirt, a tunic, and the like. As for sewing a piece to a piece, such as a rida', sewing two or three pieces together to make it a rida' or an izar, there is no harm. This does not cause harm and is not prohibited. What is prohibited, when it is said "the sewn garment," refers to the sewn garment that encloses the hand, the body, or the leg, such as a leather sock (khuff). This is what is prohibited. As for sewing that does not enclose the body, but is a piece of cloth that does not become a shirt, nor becomes like a glove, nor becomes like a leather sock, nor becomes like a tunic, but is a piece where some parts are connected to others, then there is no harm in it and no blame.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
