The Effect of Breastfeeding on a Child Relying on Formula

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The following message was received by the program from Hawtat Bani Tamim, and its sender is our brother Abdulrahman al-Haddad, who says he is of Yemeni nationality. Our brother says: The imam of one of the mosques told us about breastfeeding. He said: Kinship through breastfeeding does not occur unless the child relies solely on the mother's milk. However, if the nursed child consumes formula or other milk, then the breastfeeding has no effect at that time. We ask you to inform us of the correctness of this statement?
Answer: Once breastfeeding is established, the effect of breastfeeding applies, even if the child is consuming formula. Once it is established that the child was breastfed five times or more while within the two-year period, the woman who breastfed him becomes his mother, her brothers become his maternal uncles, and her father becomes his grandfather, and so on. Even if he is given formula, her milk must have an effect on him.
So the conclusion is that once she breastfed him, even if his mother is breastfeeding him and he is also given formula, if she breastfed him five times or more, it has an effect, and we consider him her son, as Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said in His great Book:
your [milk] mothers who nursed you, your sisters through nursingوَأُمَّهَاتُكُمُ اللَّاتِي أَرْضَعْنَكُمْ وَأَخَوَاتُكُمْ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ
[Al-Nisa: 23]. Yes.
