The questioner: Well, this is regarding the first one, O our Shaykh.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner: As for the last one, it relates to the prayer. The questioner says, and perhaps this situation is rare in its occurrence.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner: He says the imam made a mistake in the second rak'ah, he did not prostrate except for one prostration, then he stood up, so the people said tasbih for him, then he prostrated for the prostration that he had missed, then in the fourth rak'ah, after he finished it, instead of sitting for the tashahhud, he stood up for the fifth, so the people said tasbih for him, and the imam became confused, he said the taslim while standing, he said, "Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah," and he said, "Repeat your prayer, my brother."

The Shaykh: Hehehe.

The questioner: In this wording.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner: So a group of them repeated the prayer with the imam, and the other group separated from the imam and completed four rak'ahs and prostrated for forgetfulness. We want to know what is the ruling of the religion in this issue, O our Shaykh? What is the correct thing, I mean?

The Shaykh: Of course, the imam made a mistake.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: He was supposed to return to the tashahhud and do what the group who intended to separate did.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: And prostrate the two prostrations of forgetfulness.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: The important thing is that the prayer of both groups is valid.

The questioner: The prayer of both groups is valid, those who repeated and those who completed.

The Shaykh: Yes, those who repeated with the imam.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: Their prayer is clearly valid.

The questioner : Yes, my Shaykh.

The Shaykh: And likewise those who intended to separate.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: And completed the prayer based on the fourth rak'ah and prostrated the prostration of forgetfulness.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: But the imam's action was a mistake; it was not necessary for it to invalidate his prayer.

The questioner: Yes, well, O our Shaykh, if you would be kind, do you not see, O our Shaykh, that following the imam was more appropriate, meaning that they should not have separated from him?

The Shaykh: No, my brother, he invalidated the prayer.

The questioner: He invalidated the prayer.

The Shaykh : Yes, exactly.

The questioner: Well, O our Shaykh, there is a saying that if it is permissible for the imam to separate, or it is permissible for the ma'mum to separate from the imam, but without saying the taslim in a manner other than this, meaning if the imam stood up and it became clear that he, O our Shaykh, was certain that his standing was correct and that he had not added anything, and the ma'mum was certain that the imam had added to the prayer, he remained sitting. Some scholars say, in what we have heard, that he says the taslim with the imam, he remains sitting until the imam finishes the fifth rak'ah, then he says the taslim with the imam.

The Shaykh: Following is necessary.

The questioner: Following is necessary.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner: Well, may Allah bless you, O our Shaykh.

The Shaykh : And may He reward you.

The questioner : Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.
