The ruling on one who swore to fast for three years if he returns to smoking

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
One of the brothers asks a specific question, saying: A man who does not smoke, left it for a period, and resolved that he would not smoke, and swore an oath that if he smoked, he would fast for three years. He returned to it a second time and smoked. What is the ruling on the fasting for three years that he obligated himself to?

Answer:
He must repent to Allah, and he owes the expiation for the oath, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade fasting for a lifetime, and this is continuous fasting. Rather, he should feed ten poor people, or clothe them, and that suffices for his oath. He must repent to Allah and not return to smoking, because its harms are many, and it is a foul, forbidden thing. So he must repent to Allah and not return to it, along with the expiation for the oath he swore that he would not smoke. If he smoked, he owes the expiation for the oath.
