The Ruling on Forbidden Wealth Acquired Before a Person’s Repentance

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is a person held accountable for the wealth he acquired before repenting, such as through gambling and the like, when he does not know how much he took? What is his position in this matter?

Answer:
If he repents, Allah accepts his repentance. If he repents, repentance wipes out what came before. He must repent to Allah from the bad earnings he acquired. When he repents, Allah accepts his repentance. Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord and desists may have what is past, and his affair rests with Allah. But whoever returns to [dealing in interest or usury] - those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein.
[al-Baqarah: 275].
He must repent to Allah, strive to rid himself of what Allah has forbidden him, be sincere, and resolve not to return to what Allah has forbidden him. And Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) accepts the repentance of whoever repents
But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.
[20:82]. In the future, he should not take, if he has riba (usury or interest) with people... he should not take it... As for what has passed, Allah forgives it .
