Question:
What is the intended meaning of the "dhikr" mentioned in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed lifeوَمَنْ أَعْرَضَ عَنْ ذِكْرِي فَإِنَّ لَهُ مَعِيشَةً ضَنْكًا
[Surah Ta-Ha: 124]?

Answer:
It means the Qur'an. The remembrance of Allah is the Qur'an, and what is established by the Sunnah. So whoever turns away from the Noble Book and the pure Sunnah, this warning befalls him—may we seek refuge in Allah. It is obligatory for the believer to fear Allah, to take hold of the remembrance of Allah, to act upon it, and to seek Allah's help in doing so. Included in this is the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), for it explains the remembrance and clarifies its meaning. Thus, it is part of the remembrance revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
