The ruling on impure water if it is purified by scientific methods

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If impure water is repeatedly purified by scientific methods, is it pure, given that its original state is impure, and its smell, color, and taste are exactly like natural pure water?

Answer:
If it is a large quantity, and it is purified by what is in it, then if it is, for example, a large amount, and impurity affected it without changing its taste, color, or smell, and then the change disappeared and it returned to its clarity, pleasant smell, and taste, it becomes pure thereby.
As for the small amount in which the impurity is present, even if its smell has gone, the small amount is not affected. But if it is a large quantity, and the smell, taste, and color disappear, whether through treatment or without treatment, the water returns to being pure if it is a large quantity, two qullahs or more. As for less than two qullahs, that is a matter of scholarly disagreement. A very small amount does not become pure in any case; the impurity in the small amount remains, even if its smell, taste, or color has gone. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the pouring out of the vessel from which a dog had drunk, because in most cases the vessels are changed, and their water is small in quantity, so he ordered it to be poured out.
