The Ruling on Taking an Omen from the Month of Safar

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I inform you that the Rafidah take an omen from the month of Safar, and they commit acts of evil from the beginning of the month. Among these is their practice of gathering rags on the roofs of their houses. When the night of the thirtieth of Safar arrives, they bring a rooster and slaughter it over the rags, then burn them, saying: "We have slaughtered you, O rooster... O Safar, go away, O Safar..."?

Answer:
This is a form of ignorance (jahiliyyah) that has no basis. Some people other than the Rafidah also take an omen from Safar when traveling, and all of this is invalid (batil). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There is no ‘Adwa, no omen, no Hamah and no Safar.لا عدوى ولا طيرة ولا هامة ولا صفر ولا نوء ولا غول
Sunan Ibn Majah 3539
.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) invalidated taking an omen from Safar, whether this refers to the month itself, or to what some Arabs said about a harmful creature in the belly called Safar. In any case, all of this has no basis and is not true. The Prophet (may Allah's prayer and peace be upon him) invalidated it, and this means invalidating this bad habit, which is taking an omen from Safar, or taking an omen from other months. All months are a place of obedience and a place of worship of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), so there is nothing in them from which to take an omen, neither Safar nor any other.
And so it is with days. Some people take an omen from Wednesday, and this is also invalid (batil). There is no day from which to take an omen, neither Wednesday nor any other. They are all among the days of Allah that He created to be filled with obedience to Allah and worship of Him (Glorified and Exalted is He), and for the servants to benefit from them in their needs and interests. So, taking an omen (tatiyyur), contagion, and taking an omen from Safar, or from the owl (which is called the owl), or from other things... from the stars, and so on, from the jinn, all of this has no basis; rather, it is invalid (batil).
The jinn are a creation of Allah's creations. Allah deals with them as He wills (Glorified and Exalted is He), so they have no power in themselves except what Allah has empowered them with. The stars have no influence over the servants; rather, Allah created them as adornment for the heavens, as projectiles for the devils, and as signs by which one is guided in the darkness of the land and the sea.
And so it is with diseases. They do not spread by their nature. Diseases have no influence in themselves, nor do they transfer by themselves, as the Arabs of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance (jahiliyyah) used to believe. Rather, the disease and illness transfer from place to place, and from person to person, by the permission and decree of Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
So, prudence in its entirety, and guidance in its entirety, is clinging to Allah and supplicating to Him for safety from all evil, and seeking safety from all evil, while resorting to the lawful means that Allah has legislated for His servants in treating diseases.
