The Ruling on Speaking at Length to Clarify the Truth

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is euphemism among the defects of the tongue, and is it lying, or is it not? And if a person is asked to speak on a certain topic, and he speaks about it at length, and speaks about what is in the hadith, and elaborates on it, is this among the defects of the tongue?

Answer:
Speech that benefits people, clarifies the truth, and contains no lying is not among the defects of the tongue; this is truth. If one explains an important issue, or explains a verse to people, or interprets it, or interprets a hadith for people and clarifies its meaning to the extent of need, this is among the virtues of the tongue, and it is something for which a person is rewarded.
It is only among the defects of the tongue if one speaks excessively without benefit and wastes people’s time; this is chattering. But if one speaks to the extent of need, clarifies for people, and explains to them the Islamic ruling, or the authenticity of a hadith, or its invalidity, that it is fabricated against the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), or explains to them the meaning of a verse and elaborates on it to the extent of need, this is rewarded.
