The ruling on the hadith: A man entered the Fire because of a fly

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The hadith
A man entered the Fire because of a flyدخل النار رجل في ذباب
Is this authentic or not?

Answer:
There is no harm in it; Ahmad narrated it with a good chain. Its meaning is that he drew near to the idol with the fly; so he entered the Fire because of it—we seek refuge in Allah. If one draws near to idols, or to anything else worshipped besides Allah, with a fly, or a chicken, or a sacrificial animal, or dirhams, it becomes shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah . This serves as a warning against shirk, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cited it as an example to warn against shirk.
Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone].فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْ
[Al-Kawthar:2],
Say, "Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds.قُلْ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ۝
[Al-An'am 6:162]
LAA SHARIKA LAHU [Al-An'am:162, 163].
So whoever offers something to other than Allah, even if it is a trivial thing, it becomes shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah . It is obligatory for the believer to purify himself and his creed from all types of shirk, including slaughtering for other than Allah. In the hadith, Allah has cursed the one who slaughters for other than Allah.
