Justice Between Wives

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I am a woman with a husband and five sons, but my husband is married to another woman and gives her more attention than me and my sons. He prevents me from things he allows the other woman, and this is my life with him. What is your opinion on this situation?

Answer:
It is obligatory for the husband to be just in matters concerning his wives, and he has no right to be unjust. He is responsible for this matter. Therefore, it is obligatory for husbands to be just between their wives, to seek help from Allah, and to fear Him in everything: in the division of time, in financial maintenance, and in what concerns soothing their hearts and not spreading hatred between them.
This is how the husband should be: wise, striving to do everything that calms the situation and soothes the hearts, and keeping two or more wives in comfort and tranquility through his justice, care, and good character toward them all. This is what is obligatory for him. And for the wives—we also advise the wives—to be tolerant in some matters, not to be strict, and not to scrutinize every issue. Indeed, whoever is strict will inevitably regret it, and this strictness will inevitably lead to the destruction of the family and the relationship between them, except by the will of Allah. Women should also be tolerant in some matters and not be strict with the husband regarding justice if it is a minor slip or a small matter; tolerance and overlooking are required. The husband must provide care, and the wives must be tolerant of some things that may occur from the husband, which he may not have intended or may have been compelled to do. The woman... the second one; the woman should be tolerant of him in some matters so that harmony and cooperation in good are achieved.
