The questioner : May Allah reward you, O Shaykh. He says: In many Islamic countries, after the taslim from the prayer, the imam recites tasbih and the ma'mum behind him recite tasbih, and they do this with praise and glorification, then everyone raises their hands and the imam makes du'a' and the ma'mum say "Ameen" to the du'a'. Is this correct?

The Shaykh : This is not correct, neither in the aspect of collective takbir, tasbih, and tahmid, nor in the aspect of raising the hands afterwards and then making du'a', because this was not from the way of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions. It is a bid'ah (religious innovation). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
You must therefore follow my sunna and that of the rightly guided Caliphs عليكم بسنتي وسنة الخلفاء الراشدين المهديين من بعدي
Mishkat al-Masabih 165Sahīh (Zubair `Aliza'i)
, and he warned against innovations, saying:
Every innovation is misguidance. كل بدعة ضلالة
.
Based on this, we say to these brothers who pray: When you say the taslim from the prayer, seek forgiveness from Allah three times, and say:
"O Allah, You are As-Salam, and from you is As-Salam. You are blessed, O One of Magnificence and Generosity." اللهم أنت السلام ومنك السلام تباركت يا ذا الجلال والإكرام
Sunan Abi Dawud 1512Sahih (Al-Albani)
, then remember Allah the Exalted with the dhikr (remembrance of Allah) reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and the matter ends there.
