Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
In Luqman's advices to his son; who is Luqman? And what are these advices?

Answer:
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions. As for what follows, Luqman was a righteous servant, one of Allah's servants to whom Allah granted wisdom, as Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: (And We gave Luqman wisdom: "Be grateful to Allah. But if anyone is grateful, it is only for his own soul's benefit. But if anyone is ungrateful, then Allah is free of need and Praiseworthy"), (And [remember] when Luqman said to his son). These are his instructions; they begin with his saying: (And [remember] when Luqman said to his son while he was advising him: "O my son, do not associate partners with Allah"). The first thing he forbade him was shirk (associating partners with Allah); (Indeed, shirk is great injustice). Injustice is placing a thing in other than its proper place. So if worship is placed in other than its proper place, it becomes injustice, because the proper place for worship is Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), and He is the one who is worthy of it. So if anyone worships other than Him, that is injustice, and it is the greatest of the types of injustice, because shirk is the greatest of the types of injustice, as Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: (Those who believe and do not mix their faith with injustice) meaning with shirk, (Those are the ones for whom there is security, and they are the ones who are guided). (Do not associate partners with Allah. Indeed, shirk is great injustice. And We have enjoined upon man [care for] his parents. His mother carried him with weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. "Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the final destination. And if they strive to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them, but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness). To the end of the verses, until his saying: (And be moderate in your walk and lower your voice. Indeed, the most disagreeable of voices is the voice of donkeys). These are the instructions of Luqman (peace be upon him) to his son when he was advising him; and in this is concern for the upbringing of children and raising them to obey Allah.
