Question:
Our daughter was afflicted with severe depression, so she does not speak to us and is always upset. As for the prayers, we always make sure that she prays the prayers at their times. Is she rewarded for this, even though it is beyond her control?

Answer:
Answer: It is a type of mental illness. She should be treated by psychiatrists, perhaps they will find a cure for her. Also, she should receive the Shari'ah ruqyah (healing by Qur'anic recitation); she should be treated with the Shari'ah ruqyah. She should also recite the morning and evening adhkar (remembrance of Allah), and the depression will go away from her, if Allah wills.
